BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe– In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Midlands State University (MSU) athletes seized top honours in hockey, swimming, and golf at the Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (ZUSA) Cluster 3 Games, held from 4-5 October 2025.
The University’s campaign was capped by an extraordinary performance from the men’s hockey team, which powered through the tournament undefeated to claim the gold medal.
Their path to victory was one of sheer dominance, beginning with commanding shutouts in the pool stages against the National University of Science and Technology (1-0), Great Zimbabwe University (3-0), and Bindura University of Science Education (2-0).
The team’s momentum surged into the knockout rounds. A narrow 1-0 semi-final victory against Chinhoyi University of Technology set the stage for a stunning championship final, where MSU delivered a resounding 6-0 triumph over Bindura University. The women’s hockey team also fought tenaciously, advancing through the competition to secure a fourth-place finish.
Beyond the hockey pitch, MSU excellence shone brightly. On the golf course, both the men’s and women’s teams demonstrated remarkable consistency, each carding identical scores of 340 to secure dual third-place finishes in their respective divisions.
In the pool, the MSU swimming team delivered a powerful collective effort, clinching an overall third-place finish with 109 points.
The women’s team led the charge with 45 points, strongly supported by the men’s team, which contributed 36 points to the final tally.
This series of standout performances at the ZUSA Cluster 3 Games underscores MSU’s profound commitment to fostering holistic student development.
