Broadcasters have been challenged to embrace innovation, adopt emerging technologies and strengthen strategic partnerships as the media industry navigates rapid technological change and evolving audience expectations.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Zhemu Soda, the Chief Director in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said Zimbabwe is deliberately moving away from outdated media models in order to secure the future of the broadcasting industry in an increasingly digital world.

“The broadcasting sector must embrace innovation and adapt to emerging technologies if it is to remain relevant and responsive to the changing needs of audiences,” said the Chief Director.

He noted that the digital revolution is transforming how audiences consume content, compelling broadcasters to rethink traditional approaches and adopt new strategies that enhance audience engagement and sustainability.

“As technology continues to reshape the media landscape, broadcasters must position themselves to take advantage of new opportunities while remaining committed to delivering quality, credible and impactful content,” he said.

The Chief Director said the government remains committed to creating an enabling environment that supports growth, innovation and competitiveness within the broadcasting sector.

He also highlighted the importance of collaboration in driving the sector forward, stressing that partnerships will be critical in building a resilient and competitive broadcasting industry.

“Zimbabwe is looking towards partnerships with like-minded nations, organisations, institutions and development partners to strengthen our media landscape and promote sustainable growth,” he said.

The remarks come at a time when broadcasters worldwide are adapting to rapid technological advancements, changing audience habits and the growing influence of digital platforms.

The Annual Broadcasters’ Convention 2026 has brought together broadcasters, regulators, policymakers, academics, content creators and technology experts from across the country under the theme, “Shaping the Future of Broadcasting: Sustainability, Innovation and Collaborative Regulation in a Disruptive Media Landscape.”

The convention is focusing on key issues including digital transformation, artificial intelligence, content innovation, sustainability and strategic partnerships within the media sector.
