The Midlands State University (MSU) community has joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of seven children from Matongo Primary School who died after a commuter omnibus reportedly caught fire.
In a heartfelt condolence message released by the university, the institution's leadership, including the Chairperson of the University Council, Mrs. M. E. Mwamuka, Vice Chancellor Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa, the University Council, Senate, staff, and students, expressed profound sorrow over the devastating incident that claimed the lives of the young learners.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves across Zimbabwe, prompting an outpouring of grief and solidarity from educational institutions, community leaders, and citizens.
In its statement, Midlands State University described the deaths of the seven children as a heartbreaking loss not only for their families but for the entire nation.
"This devastating loss plunges us all into sorrow. These innocent young souls, cut short so suddenly and horrifically, were the promise and hope of our nation," the university said.
The institution noted that the children represented the future of Zimbabwe and that their untimely deaths had deprived the country of young lives filled with dreams, potential, and aspirations.
"Their laughter, dreams, and boundless potential will be sorely missed by their families and by all of us," the statement added.
MSU extended its condolences to the affected families, relatives, friends, and the wider Matongo Primary School community, acknowledging the immense pain caused by the tragedy.
The university pledged solidarity with those mourning the loss of the children, emphasizing that the entire MSU community stands with them during this difficult period.
"To the bereaved families: words cannot ease the weight of this unimaginable loss. Know that the Midlands State University community stands with you in your darkest hour. We weep with you, and we pray with you."
The message highlighted the importance of national unity and compassion in times of grief, encouraging communities to support one another as families begin the difficult journey of healing.
As tributes continue to pour in, the university also offered prayers for strength, peace, and comfort for the affected families.
"May the Almighty God grant the bereaved families fortitude, peace, and comfort beyond understanding."

"May the souls of these seven angels rest in eternal peace."
