Mvuma Man Jailed 15 Years for Raping Teen Cousin

A 26-year-old man from Mvuma has been sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison by the Gweru Magistrates’ Court for the repeated rape and indecent assault of his 14-year-old cousin.

‎The court heard that the abuse took place between November 2025 and January 2026. The offender used a knife to threaten the victim during the first attack and later assaulted her again in grazing lands and her bedroom. The crimes were exposed on January 5, 2026, when relatives became suspicious after hearing him call the girl to a secluded area at night.

‎Although sentenced to 15 years per rape count and 12 months for indecent assault, the terms will run concurrently for a total of 15 years. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPAZ) has condemned the "predatory behaviour," warning that the justice system remains committed to protecting children from abuse within the family unit.
