Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, has called for stronger partnerships between universities, Government and industry in Gweru at Midland State University on 28 September 2026 to turn artificial intelligence and research into practical solutions that drive Zimbabwe’s industrialisation.

Speaking at the Midlands State University Research, Innovation and Industrialisation Expo 2026 in Gweru this morning, Minister Mavetera said AI will contribute meaningfully to industrialisation when research is transformed into reliable and affordable solutions that businesses can adopt, communities can use and public institutions can sustain.

She said the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2026–2030 provides a framework for strengthening skills, infrastructure, responsible AI adoption and research, stressing that Zimbabwe must now translate this national ambition into measurable results across agriculture, industry and public services.

Minister Mavetera challenged MSU and its partners to identify priority AI and ICT projects over the next 90 days, bringing together researchers, industry and Government to test solutions and develop clear pathways from prototypes to real-world adoption.
