Midlands State University’s Health Services Department at Zvishavane Campus is set to host a Health Expo on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, in an initiative aimed at strengthening health awareness and improving access to essential healthcare information and services among students and members of the university community.
The expo, which will run from 9am to 4pm, is expected to bring together a range of stakeholders whose work is focused on promoting and protecting the health and wellbeing of the university community.
According to information provided to MSU Radio by Dr B. Gudu, Deputy Director of Health Services, the initiative is intended to expose students and other members of the university community to a variety of health service providers while creating opportunities for people to receive important health information and undergo screening.
Dr Gudu said exposure to the different stakeholders would help raise awareness of key health issues and enable members of the university community to access services that can contribute to early detection and prevention of disease.
The expo is expected to place particular emphasis on screening for both communicable and non-communicable diseases, reflecting the growing need for institutions of higher learning to provide students with accessible preventive health services.
Beyond screening, the event will provide an opportunity for participants to engage directly with health professionals and organisations, ask questions and obtain information on available healthcare services.
The initiative comes as universities increasingly recognise that student wellbeing extends beyond academic performance. Access to health information, early screening and preventive services can play an important role in enabling students to remain healthy and fully participate in university life.
MSU has previously used health-focused events to bring together several organisations providing information and services to its community. During an earlier MSU health expo, participating organisations included the university clinic, Population Services Zimbabwe, the National AIDS Council, the MSU Red Cross Club, the Zimbabwe Diabetics Association, the MSU Disability Resource Centre, First Mutual Health and the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council.
The Zvishavane Campus expo therefore provides another platform for collaboration between the university and external health stakeholders.
For students, such initiatives can provide an opportunity to access information in a familiar university environment, while health providers can use the event to communicate directly with a young and diverse population.
The Health Services Department is encouraging members of the university community to make use of the services and information available during the expo.
With the event running throughout the day, students and staff will have an opportunity to visit the various participating stakeholders, learn about available services and take advantage of screening opportunities.
The Health Expo forms part of MSU’s broader commitment to supporting the wellbeing of its university community, with health promotion and prevention complementing the academic and research functions of the institution.
