The concerns were raised during a Victim Friendly Committee meeting held on 26 May 2026 at the Regional Court in Zvishavane, where chiefs and community stakeholders discussed growing insecurity in some parts of the district.
Speaking during the meeting, Chief Mazvihwa expressed concern over rising criminal activities associated with illegal gold mining operations, saying some residents are now living in fear due to violence and lawlessness in mining areas.
“Our communities are facing serious challenges related to illegal mining activities. Cases of violence, theft, and drug abuse are increasing, and there is need for stronger police presence, especially during the night,” said Chief Mazvihwa.
The traditional leader also urged community members to work closely with law enforcement agencies by reporting criminal activities and suspicious behavior in their respective areas.
Responding to the concerns, the Zimbabwe Republic Police encouraged traditional leaders and residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement authorities to help curb crime within communities.
Police emphasized that community reporting remains important in addressing cases of violence, illegal mining, and other criminal offences.
“We encourage members of the public to report cases promptly so that swift action can be taken against offenders. Community cooperation plays a major role in maintaining peace and security,”.
