In a landmark development that underscores Midlands State University’s growing influence in producing scholars who are shaping policy, advancing research and driving academic excellence across Africa, Deputy Director for the Midlands State University National Language Institute, Dr Sindile Dlodlo, has been elected to the Executive Board of the African Languages Association of Southern Africa (ALASA).
ALASA is a non-profit scholarly association dedicated to promoting research, language development and collaboration among researchers, language practitioners, students, educators and lecturers of African languages and literature across Southern Africa.
A distinguished scholar whose expertise spans sociolinguistics, language planning, documentary linguistics and African languages literature, Dr Sindile Dlodlo facilitated the validation of Zimbabwe’s Draft National Language Policy following its development by a designated committee, contributed to the accreditation of African Languages programmes in Namibia and continues to strengthen teaching, research and regional collaboration through partnerships with leading universities across Southern Africa.
As a member of the ALASA Executive Board, Dr Dlodlo will contribute to promoting research, language development and the teaching of African languages and literature while supporting collaboration between academic institutions, language bodies and government agencies on multilingualism and language policy implementation across Southern Africa.
Her election marks another significant milestone for Midlands State University, reaffirming the University’s commitment to nurturing scholars whose expertise continues to influence policy, strengthen research and contribute to Africa’s intellectual and linguistic
