The workshop, held on 17 March 2026 at the Main Campus Senate Room, was organised through the MSU Library and brought together 218 academics from across various departments.
Running under the theme “Transform Research, Teaching, and Learning with JoVE Videos,” the session focused on leveraging peer-reviewed video resources to improve research replication, laboratory instruction and student learning outcomes.
Representing the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Administration, Professor M. Maphosa, Executive Director of Quality Assurance and Professional Development, Professor A.S. Chiromo, described the initiative as a key step towards strengthening institutional capacity.
“This workshop represents a strategic investment in our institutional capacity to deliver world-class education,” he said.
JoVE Customer Success Specialist for Sub-Saharan Africa, Ms. C. Wangui, demonstrated how the platform’s video-based resources enhance both teaching and research.
“Our platform’s peer-reviewed video library supports research replication and laboratory instruction while integrating artificial intelligence to create personalised learning pathways that adapt to the progress of every student,” she said.
The workshop also featured discipline-specific discussions, where academics explored practical ways to integrate visual learning tools into their curricula, reflecting a growing commitment to modern, student-centred teaching approaches.
Closing the event, MSU Librarian Ms. N.P. Chibanda commended participants for their engagement and underscored the importance of embracing technology in education.
The adoption of innovative tools such as JoVE aligns with Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2, which emphasises innovation and industrialisation, positioning MSU at the forefront of preparing graduates for a digital-first economy.
