Midlands State University's (MSU) Faculty of Built Environment, Art and Design, in collaboration with the Quality Assurance and Professional Development (QAPD) Directorate, hosted the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) accreditation assessment team on 22 July 2026 at the MSU Kwekwe Campus.
The accreditation exercise focused on three programmes within the Faculty, namely the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying, the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Regional and Urban Planning, and the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Real Estate Management.
The event brought together ZIMCHE officials, University management and academic staff to evaluate the Faculty’s programmes, infrastructure, teaching and learning resources, research capacity, and quality assurance mechanisms.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE), Professor K.P. Dzvimbo, underscored the significance of the accreditation visit, stressing that the exercise was intended to uphold and strengthen quality assurance in higher education.
“We are here as processors of the accreditation. This is not a negotiation process. We want the programmes to meet all the requirements to assure the continued provision of high-quality tertiary education,” said Professor Dzvimbo.
Professor A.S. Chiromo, Executive Director of the Midlands State University Quality Assurance and Professional Development (QAPD), delivered a presentation outlining the University's quality assurance processes, programme review mechanisms, and ongoing efforts to uphold the highest standards of academic excellence.
Speaking during the event, Dr. C. Paradzayi, the Executive Dean in the Faculty of Built Environment, Art and Design, presented the faculty’s three proposed academic programmes, outlining their relevance in addressing emerging industry demands and equipping graduates with the knowledge and practical skills required in the built environment, art, and design sectors.
"These proposed programmes have been carefully developed to respond to the evolving needs of future industry and society”, he stated.
Following the presentations, the delegation embarked on a guided tour of the University to gain first-hand insight into the learning environment and facilities that support academic delivery, and observe the modern teaching and learning infrastructure, specialised equipment, and practical training spaces that underpin the University's commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
In his closing remarks, the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Campus Development, Dr G. Manyatera, expressed his sincere appreciation to the ZIMCHE delegation, University management, and all stakeholders whose collective efforts contributed to the success of the accreditation visit.
The accreditation assessment demonstrated MSU’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality higher education through robust quality assurance systems, continuous programme improvement, and adherence to national academic standards.
