Midlands State University has marked International Women’s Day with a strong call for action, as stakeholders urged a shift from rhetoric to real progress in advancing women’s rights.

The commemorations, held at the Gweru Main Campus on March 24, ran under the theme “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls.”

Keynote speaker, Professor G. Mugumbate, called on institutions to lead by example by integrating gender equality into research, policies, and community engagement.

Guest of Honour, Mr K. A. Chidhume from the Ministry of Women Affairs, emphasised the role of universities in shaping inclusive and transformative societies.

Through its Gender Institute, MSU continues to implement mentorship programmes, legal aid initiatives, and empowerment platforms aimed at supporting women.

Student Representative Council President, Miss K. Mutangabende says the university is creating opportunities for young women to take up leadership roles with confidence.

As Zimbabwe advances its development agenda under National Development Strategy 2, gender equality remains central to inclusive growth.
