The Midlands State University (MSU) Council conducted a high-level tour of the University’s Kwekwe Campus and Pitscottie Farm on 26 June 2026 to assess ongoing infrastructural developments and strategic innovation projects.
Led by the Chairperson of the University Council, Mrs. M. E. Mwamuka, the delegation expressed immense satisfaction with the institution's rapid growth and its alignment with national development goals.
The tour was guided by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Manyatera, who formally welcomed the Council delegates to the Kwekwe Campus.
Dr. Manyatera was accompanied by a senior university management team, including the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Industrialisation, Professor G. Mugumbate; the University Librarian, Ms. N. P. Chibanda; Acting Registrar, Dr. D. Nemaramba; Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, Professor H. T. Ngoshi; Acting Bursar, Mrs. N. Maphosa; alongside Campus Directors and Directors.
At the Kwekwe Campus, the Council toured several flagship projects that are set to redefine the campus’ academic and residential landscape.
The delegation visited the prestigious E. D. Mnangagwa Law School, appreciating its role in anchoring top-tier legal education in the region.
The itinerary also included an inspection of the upcoming Built Environment, Art and Design lecture theatres, which are being constructed to support specialized, hands-on creative and technical disciplines.
To address the growing demand for campus residency, the Council also toured the modern, upcoming student accommodation facilities currently under development.
A major highlight of the Kwekwe Campus tour was the MSU Cannabis Centre, a pioneering research hub dedicated to exploring the medicinal and industrial potential of cannabis under strict scientific and legal frameworks.
The delegation then proceeded to Pitscottie Farm, where the University is anchoring its industrial-scale agricultural initiatives.
The Council inspected a massive, newly constructed 9-million-megaliter dam.
Built entirely through the University’s internal initiatives, the dam is designed to sustain extensive horticulture projects, securing the University’s food production and agricultural research capabilities.
Speaking at the conclusion of the tour, Council Chairperson Mrs. M. E. Mwamuka highly commended the University management and staff for the remarkable progress achieved across all sites.
The University Council strongly urged management to ensure active student participation in all major projects.
The tour underscores Midlands State University’s unwavering momentum in building state-of-the-art facilities that drive socio-economic transformation through education, research, and tangible industrial output.
