Three armed suspects robbed two homesteads, abducted a 14-year-old boy and stole cash, gold and a vehicle during a robbery at Abefonye Farm in Shurugwi on 31 August 2026 at about 1:00 a.m.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) say the three suspects, armed with machetes, a sjambok and a metal bar, first targeted the home of 44-year-old Buhle Nyathi at Abefonye Farm in Shurugwi.
The suspects allegedly forced open the door to her house, assaulted her and demanded money before stealing US$900 in cash and a Hisense cellphone.
They then proceeded to another hut at the same homestead, where they allegedly abducted Nyathi’s 14-year-old son and forced him to lead them to another homestead.
At the second homestead, the suspects allegedly assaulted Raphael Nago (59) and Apolonia Derera (46) with an iron bar, leaving Nago with a fractured left leg.
The robbers reportedly stole US$3,130 in cash, approximately 9.6 grams of gold amalgam, a cellphone, a gold monster detector and a sky-blue Honda Fit motor vehicle, registration number AEQ 6505. They loaded groceries and the 14-year-old boy into the vehicle before driving away and later dumped the juvenile in nearby bushes.
Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector E. Mahoko, is appealing to members of the public with information on the identities or whereabouts of the suspects, the stolen property or the Honda Fit motor vehicle to report to the nearest police station.
Inspector Mahoko also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, exercise caution and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the police as investigations continue.
