The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned motorists against driving plateless vehicles and using illegal blue lights and sirens, saying offenders will face arrest and their vehicles will be impounded.

In a statement issued on 1 September 2026 the police also warned motorists who illegally fit their vehicles with blue lights, sirens, bar lights, beams and other unauthorised gadgets.

The police said such practices are a serious offence and pose a threat to the maintenance of law and order.

The Commissioner-General of Police has directed all police stations, districts and provinces to take stern action against offenders.

Police officers have been instructed to arrest motorists and impound vehicles found without registration plates or fitted with illegal blue lights and other unauthorised equipment.

The ZRP has also warned motorists that excuses will not be entertained during the crackdown
