The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned motorists against driving vehicles without registration plates or with number plates obscured by bull bars, bumpers, or other accessories, saying the practice is illegal and undermines road safety and crime prevention.
In a statement issued on 27 July 2026, the police said all vehicles are legally required to display clearly visible registration plates in accordance with the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act (Chapter 13:14) and the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 13:11).
The ZRP expressed concern over an increase in vehicles whose registration plates are either missing or partially concealed, making it difficult for law enforcement officers to identify vehicles linked to criminal activities or road traffic accidents.
A police spokesperson said motorists who fail to comply with the law will face enforcement action.
"All motorists are reminded that driving a vehicle without registration plates or with number plates obscured by bull bars, bumpers or any other fittings is an offence. Police will enforce the law without fear or favour to promote road safety and assist in the fight against crime," the ZRP said.
The police urged vehicle owners and drivers to ensure their registration plates remain visible at all times and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in promoting safer roads and reducing criminal activity.
