The City of Gweru has announced a crackdown on unlicensed push carts operating in the central business district, with authorities beginning their removal and confiscation as part of efforts to restore order and cleanliness in the city.

In a public notice issued on 28 April 2026, the local authority said all operators of push carts must be properly licensed to continue operating. The city emphasized that the move is aimed at promoting sanity and regulating informal trading activities within designated areas of the CBD.

Officials are conducting inspections to verify compliance, focusing on whether operators hold valid licenses, possess national identity documents, and are operating within approved zones. The city also noted that licenses must be up to date to avoid penalties.

The operation is set to run until 10 May 2026, with authorities urging all affected vendors to regularize their operations to avoid confiscation of their push carts.
