Midlands State University (MSU) reinforced its commitment to good governance, transparency and accountability at its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on 17 August 2026 at the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development’s boardroom in Harare.

Another clean audit opinion marked MSU’s 2025 performance and confirmed that the University remained a going concern, reaffirming its sound financial management, strong governance and commitment to accountability.
Presenting the 2025 Annual Report, MSU Vice Chancellor Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa described the year as one of consolidation, growth and strategic repositioning.

“2025 was a year of consolidation, growth and strategic repositioning,” Professor Muzvidziwa said, highlighting progress in good governance, financial management, infrastructure development, academic excellence and student achievement.
Strong governance remained central to the University’s performance, with Chairperson of Council, Mrs. M. E. Mwamuka, commending the effectiveness of MSU’s governance structures and systems in strengthening oversight and accountability.

“Our governance structures and systems provide a strong foundation for effective oversight and institutional performance, enabling the University to uphold transparency, accountability and responsible governance,” Mrs. Mwamuka said.

Sound financial management was also a key feature of MSU’s 2025 performance, with University Bursar, Mrs. S. Ncube, noting that the University maintained financial stability in 2025.

“The University maintained sound financial management and remained a going concern, reflecting our commitment to responsible stewardship of University resources,” Mrs. Ncube said.
The Auditor-General’s Office further affirmed the University’s financial position, noting that the financial statements presented a true reflection of MSU’s financial position.

Beyond governance and financial performance, the AGM highlighted progress across MSU’s five strategic pillars, with continued investment in infrastructure supporting teaching, research, innovation and student development.

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Dr. Ambassador F. M. M. Shava, congratulated MSU on its performance, particularly commending the University for its clean audit opinion, good governance and accountability.

“MSU is no longer just producing graduates; it is producing solutions and driving innovation,” Dr. Shava said.
He recognised MSU as one of Zimbabwe’s leading centres of innovation and commended the University’s continued investment in infrastructure and commitment to sound institutional principles.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Professor F. Tagwira, also congratulated Professor Muzvidziwa and the MSU community on the University’s performance.

“MSU’s progress demonstrates growing maturity across all five strategic pillars, with the University continuing to strengthen its systems while advancing its contribution to higher education and national development,” Professor Tagwira said.

MSU’s 2025 performance provides a strong foundation for the University to advance its mandate in higher education, research, innovation, industrialisation and national development.

With another clean audit opinion and continued going-concern status, MSU continues to demonstrate that transparency, accountability and responsible stewardship are central to sustainable institutional excellence.
