MSU Health Expo Brings Healthcare Services Closer to Students and Staff
Campus News
Midlands State University’s Health Services Department is today hosting a Health Expo at the Zvishavane Campus, as part of efforts to bring essential healthcare services closer to students and staff.

The expo, being held on 19 August 2026, provides members of the university community with an opportunity to access health information, interact with healthcare professionals and learn more about services available to them.

The initiative follows the inaugural Health Expo held at the same campus on 19 May 2026, reflecting the university’s continued efforts to promote preventive healthcare and improve access to health services among its students and employees.

Speaking to MSU Radio, Dr Gudhu, Deputy Director in the Health Services Department at Zvishavane Campus, said the main objective of the expo is to make healthcare services more accessible and convenient for the university community.

Dr Gudhu said bringing different healthcare services to the campus allows students and staff to access assistance without having to travel long distances from their place of study or work.

The expo is also providing a platform for members of the university community to engage directly with health professionals, ask questions and receive information on matters affecting their wellbeing.

Health awareness is an important component of university life, particularly as students and staff may face a range of health challenges that can affect their academic performance, productivity and general wellbeing.

By taking services directly to the campus, the Health Services Department is seeking to encourage students and staff to take a more proactive approach to their health rather than waiting until they become seriously ill before seeking assistance.

The expo is expected to provide information on a range of health-related issues, while participating health stakeholders will have an opportunity to explain the services they provide and how members of the university community can access them.

For students, the initiative offers a convenient opportunity to learn more about maintaining healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and the importance of seeking medical attention when necessary.
Staff members also stand to benefit from the programme through access to health information and services in a setting that is easily accessible during the working day.

The Health Expo further demonstrates the role of the university health services beyond the treatment of illness. Through awareness campaigns, screening and health education, the department can contribute to the early identification of health concerns and encourage healthier choices among members of the university community.

The decision to hold another expo following the May event also points to the department’s intention to make health promotion a continuing activity rather than a once-off intervention.

The May 19 inaugural expo provided the foundation for the latest engagement, allowing the Health Services Department to continue building relationships with health stakeholders and identifying ways of improving access to services at the Zvishavane Campus.

The latest event is therefore expected to strengthen the link between the university community and healthcare providers while reinforcing the importance of preventive healthcare.

Dr Gudhu said the department remains committed to ensuring that students and staff have access to health services within an environment that is convenient, responsive and supportive of their wellbeing.

The expo comes at a time when universities are increasingly recognising that the health and wellbeing of students and employees are closely linked to academic success, workplace productivity and the overall development of the institution.

For MSU, bringing healthcare services to the campus means students and staff can receive information and assistance without significant disruption to their academic or professional responsibilities.

The Health Services Department is encouraging members of the university community to take advantage of the services and information available during the expo.

The event is expected to contribute to greater awareness of healthcare services among students and staff while encouraging early intervention, regular health checks and responsible health-seeking behaviour.

As the university continues to expand its health and wellness initiatives, the Health Expo provides an important platform for ensuring that healthcare remains accessible to the people it is intended to serve.
