The Midlands State University (MSU) Zvishavane Campus Department of Health Services hosted a vibrant and impactful Health Expo on 19 May 2026, uniting students, staff, and healthcare stakeholders in a collective drive to promote wellness, preventive healthcare, and healthy lifestyle choices within the university community.

Far more than a routine wellness initiative, the expo provided an engaging and interactive platform designed to address critical public health concerns while breaking down barriers surrounding mental health, substance abuse, and sexual and reproductive health issues.

The event focused strongly on improving everyday health literacy by offering open and accessible education, professional guidance, and practical health support services aimed at empowering students to make informed decisions about their well-being.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Deputy Director of Health Services, Dr. B. Gudu, said the expo was intentionally designed to encourage long-term positive lifestyle changes among students and staff.
“The expo was not only an opportunity to provide health services, but also a platform to educate, empower, and inspire our students to take charge of their physical, mental, and social well-being,” said Dr. Gudu.
The campus was transformed into a dynamic health awareness hub as several leading healthcare organisations and partners mounted informative exhibitions and service stations.

Participants benefited from a wide range of free services, including confidential consultations, clinical screenings, counselling, and health education sessions delivered through partnerships with the National AIDS Council (NAC), Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC), Zvandiri, Friendship Bench, SAYWHAT, Womandla, Bethany, Zvishavane District Hospital, Bonvie Clearview, Dental Smile, and the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

Students and staff enthusiastically toured the colourful exhibition stands, collecting Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials while participating in interactive demonstrations and awareness activities.

Despite the pressure of upcoming end-of-semester examinations, attendance remained remarkably high, with students actively engaging in discussions and health-focused activities throughout the day.

Dr. Gudu applauded the overwhelming participation, describing it as a positive indication that students are increasingly embracing proactive self-care and responsible lifestyle choices.

Through initiatives such as the Health Expo, Midlands State University continues to strengthen its commitment to fostering a supportive, healthy, and inclusive campus environment where students and staff are empowered to thrive holistically
