In a statement, RBZ Governor John Mushayavanhu said the new notes will be introduced in phases, starting with ZiG10 and ZiG20 denominations, alongside the new ZiG50 note. Higher denominations of ZiG100 and ZiG200 will be released later, depending on demand and prevailing economic conditions.
The central bank said adequate preparations have been made to ensure a smooth rollout, with the new notes already distributed nationwide to meet cash demand. ZiG coins, including ZiG1, ZiG2, and ZiG5, will remain in circulation to facilitate smaller transactions.
RBZ has urged the public to embrace the new currency, saying the move is aimed at promoting stability, security, and sustainability in the financial system.
