Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga is touring Midlands Province to assess development across key economic sectors, including agriculture, mining, and industry.

The tour is aimed at evaluating whether companies are operating in line with national expectations and contributing meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s economic growth. He is accompanied by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Midlands Province Honourable Owen Ncube

Speaking during a visit to Zheli Mine Pvt Ltd, a Chinese-owned lithium processing plant in Zvishavane, on 4 March 2026, Vice President Chiwenga said government officials had engaged mine management to outline the State’s expectations.

He emphasized that the Government is prioritizing value addition and beneficiation of Zimbabwe’s natural resources. Rather than exporting raw materials, companies are expected to process resources locally to maximize economic benefits for communities and the nation at large.

The Vice President noted that local processing would create employment opportunities, stimulate industrial growth, and ensure that Zimbabwe derives greater value from its mineral wealth.
